Ontario’s New Retail Training Program

A new mandatory certification for Ontario cannabis retailers was announced February 7th.

CannSell is the product of a partnership between Lift & Co. and MADD Canada and is now a required credential for all Ontario cannabis retail employees, holders of retail store authorizations, and holders of cannabis retail manager licences.

The initiative has received a multi-year approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) as the only cannabis retail training program for the province.

On February 25th, CannSell will launch as a 4-hour training program, which will give the initial brick-and-mortar stores in Ontario just over a month to train their employees in time for the April 1st deadline.

“After reviewing a number of programs and providers from across Canada, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has approved CannSell as the training program that all employees of privately-run cannabis retail stores in Ontario will be required to complete,” says Jean Major, Registrar and CEO of the AGCO. “The overarching objective of the program is to educate cannabis retail employees on the responsible sale of cannabis, as well as their legal and regulatory obligations.”

Cannabis retail locations in Canada’s largest province will officially open on April 1st 2019.
