Top Complementary Flavours

After Cannabis 2.0 in October 2018, chocolate was off to a dominant start in the Canadian market, capturing an average of 65% of edible sales in seven months. The trend has settled, with a 2021 Brightfield Group report suggesting for those that preferred edibles, 46% said that gummies were their favourite, followed by chocolate at 35%.

According to Brightfield, in January 2022, plain chocolate-flavoured THC chocolate is the most common, with 57% shelf share in the United States. Mint, caramel, espresso, raspberry, and almond are five flavours commonly paired with chocolate for delicious flavour combinations.

Up and Coming Flavour: Pomegranate

Pomegranate flavour in cannabis chocolates is on the rise. Since September 2021, pomegranate has tripled from 0.1% to 0.3% nationwide distribution in the US.

As edibles technology improved, cannabis chocolates are tasting better than ever.

Edibles to Make your Sweetheart this Valentine’s Day

Former medical marijuana bud-tender Lily Michi has the recipe for the best edibles to bake your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day.

Lily’s Recipe for Dirty Dalmatians:

·         ¾ cup cannabis butter
·         ½ cup sugar
·         ¾ cup brown sugar
·         2 eggs
·         1 tablespoon vanilla
·         2 cups flour
·         1 tsp baking soda
·         ¾ tsp salt
·         1.5 cups coconut chips
·         ¾ cups caramel chips
·         ½ to ¾ cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven 350 degrees F. in a large bowl, mix butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and mix. In a separate small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Add dry mix to large bowl and mix as little as needed. Add coconut, caramel, and chocolate chips and mix.

Grease pan well. Add to pan. Bake for 21-22 minutes.

Lily’s Recipe Peanut Butter Brownies:

·         9 cups Chex mix
·         1 cup chocolate chips
·         ½ cup peanut butter
·         ¼ cup cannabis butter
·         1 tsp vanilla
·         1.5 cups powdered sugar
·         ¼ cup cocoa powder

Put cereal in a large bowl and set aside. Add butter to saucepan. Heat the pan on the stovetop over medium-low heat. When butter starts to melt, add the chocolate chips. As the chocolate chips begin to melt, stir with spatula.

Continue to stir until almost all chocolate chips are melted. Add peanut butter and continue to stir until mixture is smooth. Take off heat and add vanilla.

Pour mixture over cereal and stir until evenly coated. Put in large resealable food storage bag. Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Seal bag and shake until well coated. Spread on wax paper to cool. Enjoy!
