A new cannabis lobbying group in Alberta, the Alberta Cannabis Council has been formed to “elevate the awareness of the Alberta cannabis industry, and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in [the] province.”
The group works on behalf of cannabis producers, retailers, clinics, and affiliates including public agencies, the scientific research community, and post-secondary institutions.
Their mission is to act as a unified voice and help positively shape the emerging cannabis industry in Alberta. The council is based on five key pillars: engage members, advocate on behalf of the industry, educate communities and consumers, protect the public by establishing best practices, and give back to communities. More detailed policy positions will reportedly be released by the council in the coming weeks.
The Alberta Cannabis Council is led by Executive Director Michelle Russell and governed by founding members: Nathan Mison (Fire & Flower), Ashley Newman (Queen of Bud), Gerald Proctor (Sundial Growers), Jeff Mooij (420 Investments), and Jesse Beaudry (Candre Cannabis).
